My family and I visited here this past fall during our campout @ Interstate State Park stay. Schoony's is a very nice place with lots of flavors to choose from. It is one of the few places where you can get coconut ice cream (one of my all time favorites and hard to find). I thought their hot food was mediocre @ best - you can get much better food/service next door @ Borders and head over here for the ice cream.

Schoony's is a nice malt shop/pizza joint right off of Hwy 8 as you enter Taylor's Falls. It makes for a fun stop especially if you are hiking the glacial potholes area or taking a riverboat ride along the St. Croix. Schoony's seems to have a variety of ice cream flavors which is always impressive. Not as many as a place like the Grand Ole Creamery in St. Paul, but still a wide selection. They also offer shakes and malts in the majority of ice cream flavors--being shake enthusiasts, my brothers and I had to try a couple. I sampled the hot fudge shake and what I believe was strawberry banana malt. They are made with real ice cream and topped with whipped cream, a cherry, and a cookie. You can always taste the difference at places that make authentic shakes/malts. This place does that well. I didnt try anything else, but Ive heard the pizza is good there. The interior is cleary very old--it's given away by the ornamental tin ceilings. They have an old school looking soda bar area in the back with a few old games and a vintage looking Coke machine. They have outdoor seating as well. I am not aware of how the parking situation is, but I know that it can be tricky at times to park in these popular little river towns if you are there during peak times. I parked in the State Park parking lot just down the street for $5 (it seemed worth it). Pros: Nice stop for a snack if you are in Taylor's Falls on a hot day, wide variety of real ice cream shakes/malts, located right by the river in Taylor's Falls Cons: Shakes/malts are pricey ($5.50), they charge a fee for using a credit card, not worth driving out of the way to go to

Visited for the first time last weekend with friends. We were served our ice cream cones quickly even though there was quite a long line. All in all, a good experience, great ice cream. Will return again next summer. This ice cream is every bit as good as Nelson's in Stillwater!

We stopped here on a recent vacation. They have a ton of ice cream flavors, and their malts looked yummy. They also have a full selection of classic sodas, including much of the Sprecher line. We got a table to order lunch. It took FOREVER for our pizza to come, and our server was inattentive at best. This wasn't totally her fault, as it seems she was also supposed to be scooping ice cream for the line snaking out the door. If you're traveling with kids who are gonna get super whiny/cranky if their food doesn't come out fast, go somewhere else for the sake of your sanity. Ultimately, the pizza wasn't anything noteworthy. It was good, but not spectacular. I would probably just come back for ice cream in the future.

We decided to get some ice cream after visiting downtown. Well, there was some cool looking coin machines. One of them had a fortune teller and another one with predicting love partner by gripping a large hand. Afterwards, we sat down to enjoy the ice cream. Unfortunately, this place did not serve pizza but we were planning to have dinner elsewhere. The ice cream was good and I got a root beer float. She had the butter pecan flavor which was my favorite. It's good to know that my fiancée shared my taste of food.

This place is in a really cool old building... and that's all it has going for it. The pizza really isn't that good. The ice cream is ok and there are a lot of flavors depending on what time of the year you go. They used to have booths which I really enjoyed but they removed those and replaced them with picnic tables (???). If you're in the area and want to check out the interesting atmosphere then it wouldn't hurt to stop buy. However if you're really hungry and want a great experience, look elsewhere.
